1. What study tips described in the text can you incorporate into your study efforts? (SQ3R) Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Review. I prioritize each upcoming exam and the supporting materials, including the assigned chapters. I take advantage of the instructor’s office hours and asking, “which material is most important for me to learn?” If that information wasn’t communicated in class hours. Also, I have completed the practice questions/test and I read the summary at the end of the chapter. I Incorporated index cards to help me understand and remember the chapter’s glossary terms. If I use these tips, I usually do well on my exams.
Based on your reading, is it better to space your study sessions or cram just before exams? I would agree

This chapter discussed the role of sociocultural factors in psychological adjustment. What impact has your own ethnic or cultural background had on your daily life? According to the chapter 1 genetic factors play a role and psychological adjustment and effective behavior, biology is not destiny. One ethnic or cultural background is impacted on my daily life is environmental. When I was a child, my mother who was raised in the south, would often tell me to take my hands out of my pockets when we would walk into a store. I finally asked her in my teenage years, “why do I have to take my hands out of my pockets”. Her reason was fear, the workers from the store wouldn’t think I stole anything. I think her concern impacted my life, today I believe I’m still being watched when I go into a …show more content…

Based on your reading, is it better to space your study sessions or cram just before exams? I would agree with the author, it makes sense to space out your studying fairly even throughout the semester rather than cramming before exams.
How will this knowledge affect your study practices? This will help improve my grades and gain more pleasure from the learning process. This will help with test anxiety and irrational thoughts. I’m able to focus my attention and make better decisions on the
The first step to successfully study for any type of material is to keep the material organized and make sure the information is correct. A good routine would be to check notes periodically
After reading the article I want to change my study habits some. My goal is to implement the strategy previously mentioned. I think self-testing myself as I read will allow for much more long term absorption of material. In addition, to increasing the skills in how I read I want to learn to create study questions for myself. When study guides are not provided it’s easy to feel overwhelmed with the idea of exams. However, we can train ourselves to recognize important information and create our own study questions to be able to answer before exam day. Self-testing and self-created study questions are going to my new approach at studying.
Creating a study plan and planning my time realistically I think could improve the effectiveness of my studying sessions. Also studying effectively I can improve on. Last week I talked about concentration and all the barriers in my life that effect my studying. I think those barriers decrease how effective my studying is. Therefore I want to go to the quiet study zone in the library at school as much as I can to hopefully get more out of my studying. In the Nurse Tim Student Success Six Pack video on test prep the speaker discussed short studying sessions to be highly effective. I tend to sit and study for hours rather than short times. Short study sessions are supposed to help to retain information better. I will try and implement short study
First, Dr. Sufka begins by mentioning how important it is to read textbook chapters before coming to class. When you do that, it helps prepare you for the lecture topic, and it may enlighten you on words or phrases you may not already know. Second, you need to go to class feeling terrific, or you could get distracted and miss key ideas during the lecture. Dr. Sufka emphasizes recording lectures, so if you cannot copy down notes fast enough you can look at them later. In summary, you will make better test grades if you get ahead of your professor by knowing the material fairly well before going to your next
1. Well, to begin with, most importantly, I like to learn in a peaceful and calm surrounding because that helps in building concentration. I don't like a messy work area because it causes a distraction, so I try to make the area organized if possible. I get distracted easily so, if I am studying near a window, I close the blinds so I won't look outside, turn off the radio, television, etc. I start going through will all easy questions, then I work on the harder questions. Every time I think that I am tired or been studying for a very long time, I take a 30-minute break and I make sure that I am not over-doing it, that way I can take in the best.
Study Questions: Answer the following questions (based on the reading), save it and then submit it to the professor.
Critical reading for this class comes easily. Reading the chapter, highlighting certain points and writing notes helps to understand the content. The topics mentioned thus far have all been fairly easy to grasp, especially since they are familiar topics but as time progresses and the reading become more in depth, this strategy will be increasingly more helpful. Critical reading is always a struggle but hopefully this class, with all of the assigned reading, will help teach how to properly read a textbook, fully understanding each and every phrase mentioned. While reading a textbook, it is easy to get distracted and forget everything that was just read, by taking notes and highlighting while reading, it is easier to grasp the information given. Being able to stay focused and be more insightful throughout this class is a definite growing
Use each week’s questions as a self-test at the start of a new week to reflect on the previous week’s concepts. When you come across concepts that you are unfamiliar with, refer to the Student Guide for that particular week. The Student Guide provides a breakdown of the readings that align to the Final Examination questions.
Third, you should form a study group or develop self-study practice sessions. In your practice sessions, you should practice reviewing material that is emphasized for your test. Also, you should practice reviewing material that is presented in numbered lists that often provide the basis for essay and multiple-choice questions. For example, list thirteen vitamins, or list warning signs for heart disease. Moreover, practice answering questions or material with a lot of lecture or text coverage. Answer the questions you wrote in your text, and formulate essay questions and outline answers. While practicing, if you have any questions that you are unable to answer, consult your instructor to get the correct answers to study.
In regards to study time, we see that students using the note-taking method spent significantly more time than students who used the 3R or reread-only method. Additionally, we see that those who used the 3R method took more time than those who used the reread only method.
A range of different and useful topics have been discussed since the start of Pathways to lifelong learning, some of which I found to be of particular help. The college expectations which we learned towards the beginning of the course was especially helpful to learning how to become a critical thinker, something that was not very touched upon throughout my time in high school. I now use Bloom’s Taxonomy when beginning to prepare for an important paper or presentation. In addition to the first chapter, I had also found great help in the second chapter on the skills needed to succeed in school. In the past, I used rehearsal as my main strategy to memorize for any upcoming tests or exams, however that often resulted in either retrieval failure or ineffective encoding. I now use chunking and elaboration as my main strategies to studying as I find it most effective when studying and retrieving information, especially when I am needing to memorize and learn a big amount of material.

Go to 18 Good Study Habits, and read their explanations. Then write about Law of the Farm (you may have to look it up further), time boxing (be sure to include it's "golden rule," and one other tip. How have you used them--or not used them--this term in this course or another online (including hybrid) class? How could you plan to use them next semester?
In class, I felt like I had to use apply what I know from my other classes. I like how the lecture notes and audio was online so, I reviewed the materials again for the test, to clear and view my confusion. To prepare for the exam I would meet up with my classmates, go to review section, go to the SI and study on my own. When I meet up with a classmate we ask question to each other and go over the clicker question. We make sure why the correct answer is and why it is not the answer. For the first test, I would memories the clicker question answer because I knew that it is going to be on the test. These strategies and activity are going to help me succeed in other science classes. Base on what I learn in Biology 1050, I can use it in my other class to be
I feel like I’ll have a few personal goals for this class. One of those goals would be finding a way for me to understand fully what I’m reading is an important goal. This goal will probably be the toughest goal I have because I’ll find myself reading out loud, in my head, or trying to have it read aloud to me and I still won’t necessarily understand what I’m reading. For me to achieve this goal, I will try and print out the readings offline, and annotate and highlight or I might just purchase the hard copy of the book. I haven’t quite made that decision up yet. Another goal of mine would be to find the best way for me to study for this class is and get
