As I begin this semester, I find myself trying to come up with new ways to succeed in my education and further develop my understanding of the topics I have enrolled myself into. This semester I feel is going to be a challenge though, the work load is seeming to be much larger than I had anticipated for preparing for most of my classes. If I’m being completely honest, this would not have been my first choice of a class to take, it’s not a subject I’m passionate about or necessarily like. I don’t usually understand all of what they do or what they are talking about. This is one of the few class I have left to take to earn my Associates Degree. Focusing on this class in specific, I hope to gain a better understanding of our government in general and gain the ability to easily decipher and understand what I read for this class.
I feel like I’ll have a few personal goals for this class. One of those goals would be finding a way for me to understand fully what I’m reading is an important goal. This goal will probably be the toughest goal I have because I’ll find myself reading out loud, in my head, or trying to have it read aloud to me and I still won’t necessarily understand what I’m reading. For me to achieve this goal, I will try and print out the readings offline, and annotate and highlight or I might just purchase the hard copy of the book. I haven’t quite made that decision up yet. Another goal of mine would be to find the best way for me to study for this class is and get
Critical reading for this class comes easily. Reading the chapter, highlighting certain points and writing notes helps to understand the content. The topics mentioned thus far have all been fairly easy to grasp, especially since they are familiar topics but as time progresses and the reading become more in depth, this strategy will be increasingly more helpful. Critical reading is always a struggle but hopefully this class, with all of the assigned reading, will help teach how to properly read a textbook, fully understanding each and every phrase mentioned. While reading a textbook, it is easy to get distracted and forget everything that was just read, by taking notes and highlighting while reading, it is easier to grasp the information given. Being able to stay focused and be more insightful throughout this class is a definite growing
The essay demonstrates your ability to write clearly and concisely on a selected topic and helps you distinguish yourself in your own voice. What do you want the readers of your application to know about you apart from courses, grades, and test scores? Choose the option that best helps you answer that question and write an essay of no more than 650 words, using the prompt to inspire and structure your response. Remember: 650 words is your limit, not your goal. Use the full range if you need it, but don't feel obligated to do so. (The application won't accept a response shorter than 250 words.)
I will be a grading for a couple of political science courses for the semester. The hours I work depend on the amount of work assigned. Every week varies from 10-20 hours per week. Since my business degree has a concentration in Public Service and Public Policy, I am required to take this class, but nonetheless this is material I am very interested in learning more about. An expectation I have for this course is get a better understanding of how public service and public policy works and the process. I am excited for what the class has to offer and contribute some my experiences in class
Throughout my academic career, I have had the opportunity to take a number of American government classes that ranged from studying original concepts, during the foundation of our country, to analyzing more recent events and policies that have taken place during my life. When I started Political Science 101, I was under the impression that I would be doing more review of American government. As the semester continued, I gained a variety of new ideas and perspectives that were unlike anything I had learned in previous courses.
To ensure my success I will make sure that I am up to speed with the reading because I know the reading will help me understand the concepts we will be learning that week. I will also try to actively participate in the
So far I have been enjoying this course, but I will admit that I have not spent as much time on reading the chapters as I should have. I have been a little distracted by all of my other classes and on top of that now, I have been focusing more on the test, case study, and presentations that are coming up very soon. It is all very overwhelming, because there are so many assignments due in a short amount of time, I pushed the readings to the very last thing that I worry about, which I know will not help me learn the material. I have reread over two chapters; chapter five, and nine. Chapter five is the chapter my group and I will be presenting so I want to make sure I know that chapter well. Chapter nine was not my strongest area when we practiced
I wish to take AP US Government and Politics next year because I have an authentic admiration for history and I am genuinely interested in how the systems work. We live in a world controlled by politics and I need to understand so that I can have my own view on what is going on and possibly make a great impact. Being in this class would be great for me because I’d love to be a resource someone could go to for an educated opinion on politics and anything government akin. My critical thinking skills will be improved and I will be able to see things from a political perspective and not just an opinionated one. This county is arranged in a cocksure way and as a student, I want to be able to deduce the chaos behind the madness. I want to know who
Give the class a list of words from the book and have them write definitions of what they mean. (ACELY1670) Use comprehension strategies to build literal and inferred meaning and begin to analyse texts by drawing on growing knowledge of context, language and visual features and print and multimodal text structures (ACARA,
It never occurred to me before to take some time and evaluate my reading process and my reading habits. I’ve done tons of readings throughout my whole life, including articles and abstracts for school and just some novels and fiction books for entertainment. However, I barely paid attention at any of my reading routine. All I was concentrated on were either getting the information I need from the text or, in case of a novel, enjoying the plot. Up until recently I had no idea if the way I was reading is productive or not, but after accomplishing my assignment for English class to read the texts from “On Creative Reading”, I tried to look at my reading process from a different angle.
Writing has always been something I dread. It’s weird because I love talking and telling stories, but the moment I have to write it all down on paper, I become frantic. It’s almost as if a horse race just begun in my mind, with hundreds of horses, or words, running through my mind, unable to place them in chronological order. Because I struggle to form satisfying sentence structure, it takes me hours, sometimes even days, to write one paper. It’s not that I think I’m a “bad writer,” I just get discouraged easily. Needless to say, I don’t think highly of my writing skills. When I was little I loved to both read and write. I read just about any book I could get my hands on, and my journal was my go to for my daily adventures. Although it’s
My reading process overall is very strong and went smoothly. As I read I annotated the pages and this helped me stay more focused and connected with the reading. Today it was hard for me after I went to the bathroom and came back to the reading because I disconnected from the reading and had to try and dive straight back in. I also put my cell phone far away from me when I read or do homework so that I will not be tempted to look at the phone instead of completing my reading.
A topic that has been covered during class that has made an impact in my life as a student for this current semester would have to be money matters were we look at our money making choices. It has made an impact by showing me how to budget my money and seperate my wants and needs. Helps me navigate my money more towards my needs which are more important than my needs. I have learned that my needs can wait and aren't necessary which allow me to save more money for future purposes. With this in mind I would like to take the budgeting skills I have learned through this course and use them in real life situations. Furthermore I would like to have save enough money saved in order ro be able to buy a necessity like a house
Back in the ever so glorious days when my books had colorful illustrations, minimal words, and happy endings, I had no trouble reading them. As the years progress, I have seen fewer pictures, more words, and tragic endings. However, a book is worth more than its words or images; sometimes I have to read in between the lines. In fact, as a reader, I have to analyze what the author is trying to explain through his or her words, not just the plot. I grew up mostly analyzing the storyline: the beginning, middle, and end. I thought that the plot is the epitome of literary analysis, but there are numerous ways to decipher what the author is trying to portray to his or her readers. For instance, I can look at the character’s development throughout the story, find imagery, symbolism, metaphors, etc., and conclude a theme or themes for the story. These are several of the literary devices that are used to analyze literature. Even though the plot is fundamental to the foundation of a story, I have learned that the little details that supports the plot makes the author’s work more compelling and exciting.
There is a famous saying “Every time you open a book, you learn something”. Nevertheless, I had never imagined that reading could be fun, meaningful, and creative. The more I read, and the more I was attached to the books. After I discovered a few of the readings, I realized how the authors wanted to introduce their ideas without telling the story directly. This is fairly new to me. In my earlier English classes that I had studied at the City College of San Francisco, I read mostly textbooks and non-fiction readings. In this English 1B class, I started reading the poem and fiction materials and they are much harder to understand. Surprisingly, it often uses different configurations to educate the readers. At the same
I am a new, better reader; In school I have always struggle in English whether it was reading or finding the right thing to say and always having the fear that it would keep repeating. When I came into this english 10 class I learned certain skill I have never been taught before that helped me grow as a student and a reader. These strategies that I was taught in this class gave me a new way at viewing books, short stories or movies. Recently in class we read the book The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier by these skill I have been taught in class influenced the way I experienced the book The Chocolate War.
