When the relationship between two data sets is to be analyzed scatter plot is used.
Provided two data sets outside temperature and heating bill. Now these two data sets are related as when outside temperature is low use of electrical appliances like air conditioners and fans are not used whereas when temperature is high use of such appliances increases and so the heating bill also amounts more.
For example: let x denote the outside temperature and y denote heating bill.
The scatter plot of the data is provided below,
It is observed that there is a positive relationship between x and y.
Thus, the scatter plot between outside temperature and heating bill show apositive relationship.
