Introduction: An adult human contains 26 vertebrae in the vertebral column, cervical – 7, thoracic – 12, lumbar – 5, sacral - 1, and coccygeal – 1. The intervertebral discs are present between the vertebral bodies and it is a principal joint that is present between the two vertebrae.

Introduction: The intervertebral discs are present between the vertebral bodies. It contains nucleus pulposus and annulus fibrosus. When the annulus fibrosus portion of the intervertebral disc is stressed and cracked or torn, it results in the formation of herniated disc. The herniated disc is also known as a slipped disc.
