Chapter 9, Problem 5RQ
Summary Introduction

To compare:

Cytokinesis in an animal cell and plant cell.

Concept introduction:

Cytokinesis is a phase in the cell cycle that takes place immediately after M phase or mitotic phase. In this phase, all the cellular constituents along with the cytoplasm are divided into two daughter cells. If cytokinesis does not take place after mitosis, a dikaryon structure containing two nuclei would be formed.

Students have asked these similar questions
Which of the following are stages in the cytokinesis of animal cells? Select all that apply. A) The cell plate expands along the plane of division, and when the plate fuses with the plasma membrane, the cytoplasm is partitioned into two new cells.   B)After telophase, the contractile ring constricts the plasma membrane and forms a cleavage furrow.   C)The contractile ring reaches its smallest diameter, and the spindle microtubules are cut as vesicles form the new membranes that separate the two new cells.   D)A contractile ring of microfilaments and motor proteins forms under the plasma membrane during anaphase.
