Concept explainers
(a)
Interpretation:
Out of C-C triple bond and C-N triple bond, that appears at higher wave number in IR spectrum needs to be determined given that both have same strength.
Concept Introduction :
There is large variance in force constant with small changes to bond length. The wavenumber is inversely proportional to square root of reduced mass. Hence, there is increase in reduced mass with decrease in wavenumber.
(b)
Interpretation:
Whether the reduced mass or stretching frequencies of C-N is in accordance with experimental data or not needs to be determined.
Concept Introduction :
Small changes in bond length leads to large variances in force constant. Also, it is known that wavenumber is inversely proportional to square root of reduced mass. Therefore, decrease in wavenumber is associated with reduced mass.

- Q.2. (a) An atomic absorption spectrometer requires a very different light source than does aninstrument for molecular absorption. Describe the light source used by each instrumentand explain why these two instruments need such different light sources. As part of youranswer, explain the consequences if you interchange the two types of sources. " discussing specific reasons why the correlation is valid or non- %3D existent.arrow_forwardIn Section 6.2d, we saw that the pK, of an acid is equal to the pH of the solution at which half the acid has dissociated into its conjugate base. UV-vis spectroscopy can be used to measure the relative concentrations involved if the acid or conjugate base absorbs UV-vis light. With this in mind, suppose that a particular acid has a Amax of 312 nm. The figure here shows the absorbance at that wavelength as a function of pH.
