Summary Introduction
Coronary artery disease is one of the cardiovascular diseases. It is the pathological condition of coronary arteries. The other name of coronary artery disease is ischemic heart disease. It is characterized by plaque that builds up in the coronary artery. Plaque narrows the artery and sometimes it fully closes its lumen. Angioplasty is a therapeutic procedure to remove the plaque using a balloon. The balloon is inserted with a catheter into the narrowed artery and it is inflated there to increase the arterial lumen size.
