Burning biomass to produce electricity avoids many of the problems associated with gathering, refining, transporting, and burning fossil fuels. Yet the use of biomass as fuel is not without its own set of problems. What challenges might arise from a large-scale conversion to biomass energy? How do these challenges compare with those encountered with fossil fuels? Which set of challenges do you think is more likely to be overcome? Does one energy source have more benefits and fewer costs than the others? Explain.

- a company called changing world technologies has built a pilot plant to test a process it has developed for converting a mixture of disgraded computers, old tires, turkey bones, and other wastes into oil by mimicking and speeding up natural processes for converting biomass into oil. how could this lead to an increase in waste production?arrow_forward1-.Explain how a change in the type of energy used can modify a technical process. 2-.What alternatives can you propose to consume less electricity? 3-.What are renewable energies and how could they take advantage of them?arrow_forwardCombining BioEnergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) offers theprospect of energy supply with large-scale net negative emissions and in most of the lower RCPs is required to stay below 2 degrees of global warming. But this entails challenges and risks associated with the upstream large-scale provision of the biomass that is used in the CCS facility as well as those associated with the CCS technology itself. In no morethan 1 page (excluding diagrams) discuss the potential role of BECCS in reducing global greenhouse gas emissions from conventional fossil fuel power stations and what issues or barriers need to be addressed to enable this. Some of the points to be addressed include:i. To what extent the technology has been proven at an appropriate scale.ii. What incentives (e.g. what level of carbon price) would be needed to drive the investment needed.arrow_forward
- Hello sir/miss, the question and answer are provided below. Is the answer to the question correct? Explain how the carbon cycle is related to energy flow in ecosystems. The carbon cycle is related to energy flow in ecosystems because they both involve photosynthesis. In the carbon cycle, carbon dioxide plays a role in plants and microorganisms using photosynthesis. The energy flow in ecosystems absorbs a small part of the Sun’s radiant energy (0.023%) by living organisms for photosynthesis.arrow_forwardWhat is biomass and what can be done with biomass?
