Explanation of Solution

Cloud:

The term cloud can be defined as the process that let the computer resources to be accessed anytime anywhere over the internet.

  • The cloud can be represented as the elastic leasing of the various computer resources that are known as the pooled resources which can be accessed over the internet.

Cloud resources:

The following discussion will help to understand how cloud resources are used organizations as follows:

Example:

Consider an example that how Car Manufacturer Company gets best benefits from cloud’s resources such as elasticity, pooled, and unique internet connections.

Elasticity:

The term elastic has been used in the definition meaning that the amount of resources can be increased or decreased in any point of time.

  • A Car Manufacturer makes an advertisement to run in Academy Awards. This ad will be requested more to one nation than to another. They know that without reducing response time they will never get benefits for the Ad.
  • Without increasing servers, the response time will take more than one second; it takes less attention from Academy Awards observer. Hence this company had made contract with cloud vendors to add required servers in worldwide to reduce the response time.
  • They need not contract for arrangement that supports maximum demand. The cloud can provision servers through worldwide.

Pooled:

  • The servers that are required by Car Manufacturer can be used for few hours with less cost.
    • Hence the servers can be reallocated to another firm.
  • Cloud vendors get the benefits from “economies of scale”.
    • That is, the production cost gets decreased when the size of the operation gets increase.
  • Cloud vendors can control massive web farms.

Unique Internet connection:

A Car Manufacturer in previous resource had contracted with the cloud dealers for getting maximum response time and required servers. The servers are placed in worldwide.

  • In olden days, a developer from the Car Manufacturer Company will meet the cloud dealer for interface design. But this meeting will be take more time, contains slow processing and expensive.
  • Now, industry had settled on a set of protocols for receiving and requesting services from Internet.
  • This standard will enable computers that it never “met” before to organize a worldwide process to deliver on user’s PCs, Google Phones, and so on.

Cloud Category:

There are generally three categories of cloud which are as follows:

SaaS (Software as a Service):

The SaaS provides the organization the service of hardware infrastructure as well as the operating system and the various application programs that are positioned on top of the hardware.

Example:

  • Salesforce.com that provides the service for customer and sales tracking.
  • Office 365 by Microsoft.
  • iCloud developed by Apple Inc. for scheduling customer appointment on any iOS devices.

PaaS (Platform as a Service):

In PaaS, the vendors can be able to provide the hosted computer system, the Operating Systems and the Database Management System (DBMS) that include own application of the top of the hosted computer system.

Example:

  • Microsoft Windows Azure that provides the server functionality for customers.
  • SQL (Structured Query Language) Azure developed by Microsoft...
