A lamp, when plugged in at the end of a long extension cord, appears dimmer than when is connected at the end of a short cord due to the resistance of the cord.
The resistance of the cord decreases the current flowing through it by changing electric energy into other forms of energy. The greater the length of the cord, the higher its resistance.
Therefore, the current in the long cord decreases due to high resistance and the lamp appears dimmer.
