To describe:
The nurse role in the process of initiating and maintaining continuous or intermittent enteral feedings, and total parental nutrition.
Introduction:
A method of feeding in which the gastrointestinal tract is bypassed is termed as total parenteral nutrition (TPN). Liquid foods (fluids) are administered through the vein to deliver the nutrients. This technique is applied, if a patient has difficulties in receiving fluids or feeding through the mouth. The nutritional recommendations before and in the course of pregnancy are termed as prenatal nutrition. The prenatal nutrition offers a strong effect on the development and birth weight of the infant. Taking a healthy diet during pregnancy is associated with the development of the fetal brain. A balanced diet also helps in improving the labor and delivery as well.
