Consolidation is the process that modifies new memories into a state in which these memories are more resilient to disruption. It is a different process which helps to sustain, strengthen and change memories that were previously kept in the long-term memory. Once the memories experience the process of consolidation, then they become a part of long-term memory and are thought as stable.
