Introduction: The inner lining of the endometrium thickens for the implantation of a fertilized egg in all female mammals. When the implantation fails and the endometrial lining is shed, it is known as the menstrual cycle. It is observed only in humans and some primates. In other mammals, the endometrium is reabsorbed and is known as the estrous cycle.
