Explanation of Solution
Given Information: a musical camp consisting of 88 participants have 32 vocalists, 16 drummers, 24 guitarists and 16 bassists.
Formula used: Calculate Greatest common factor using factor method of monomial to see the identical number of bands.
Calculation:
Part I:
In order to find the greatest number of identical bands, calculate the GCF of the 4 categories.
The factors of 16 drummers are: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16
The factors of 16 bassists are: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16
The factors of 24 guitarists are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24
The factors of 32 vocalists are: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32
Then the greatest common factor amongst 4 categories is 8.
By this can observe, a total number of 8 identical bands can be made out of 88 participants. These are the greatest number of bands that can be formed.
Part II:
To find the total number of vocalists in each band, divide the total number of bands(i.e. GCF) by the total number of vocalists(i.e. the 4th category)
4 vocalists can be in each band.
