An airplane pilot wishes to fly directly westward. According to the weather bureau, a wind of 75.0 km/hourkm/hour is blowing southward. The speed of the plane relative to the air (called the "air speed") as measured by instruments aboard the plane is 310 km/hourkm/hour . In which direction should the pilot head?
a)What is the speed of the air relative to a person standing on the ground, vA/G? What is the speed of the plane relative to the air, vP/A?
I have no idea to how to start to this question: Wags (a dog) decides to go on a journey. He begins his journey by traveling 58 meters in a direction directly south. He then runs 100.0 meters in a direction 30◦north of west. During the last leg of his journey, he follows a scent for 59 meters in a direction 30◦east of north. What distance does Wags end up from his initial startingpoint?
The velocity of a plane relative to still air is 135 mi/hr. The pilot wants to fly straight north over the ground. A ground observer tells the pilot by radio that a 70 mi/hr wind is blowing, but forgets to tell her the wind direction. The pilot observes that, in spite of the wind, she can travel 135 miles north over the ground in one hour (i.e., her ground speed is the same as if there was no wind).
a.) Draw a picture
b.) What is the direction of the wind relative to the ground?
