Textbook Question
Chapter 39, Problem 16SP
A farsighted person who needs glasses can read without them when holding a text at 74 cm from the eye instead of the more usual 25 cm. If he or she puts on a pair of glasses having a dioptric power of 3.0 D, where will the new near point be? Discuss your answer. [Hint: Use Eq. (38.1) and remember that the image distance must be negative; here it’s –0.74 m. The object distance is then the near point in meters.]
