Chapter 3.7, Problem 1CC
Summary Introduction

To determine: Whether the sequence of one DNA strand can be predicted if the sequence of other DNA strand is given.

Introduction: DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is a nucleic acid biomolecule. DNA is composed of monomeric units called nucleotides. Nucleotides have three components: a phosphate group, a pentose sugar (either ribose or deoxyribose), and a nitrogenous base. Nitrogenous bases have two categories: purines (cytosine and thymine) and pyrimidines (adenine and guanine).

When proteins recognize and bind to a specific sequence in DNA, why do they usually just recognize short sequences of 5-6 bases rather than 10-20 bases?
If the base sequence on one DNA strand is ATGGCCTAG, what is the sequence on the other strand of the helix?    If the original strand serves as the template for transcription, what is the sequence on the new formed RNA strand?
Which complementary base pair, G-C or A-T, would be hardest to break apart when a double-strandedDNA helix unwinds during cellular processes?
