Introduction:

Selective breeding is a process in which the breeders cross two different varieties of crops which have different characteristics. The plants having disease resistant trait is crossed with the high yielding variety to obtain a new disease-resistant, high yielding crop. Hence, selective breeding involves the development of the new crop that has the desired characteristics of both the parent plants.
