Concept explainers
Name the chief intracellular electrolytes and the chief extracellular electrolytes.
To name: The chief intracellular electrolytes and the chief extracellular electrolytes.
Introduction: There are various inorganic and organic substances in the solution of body fluids. These fluids mainly contain inorganic electrolytes and proteins.
Explanation of Solution
The electrolytes can be intracellular as well as extracellular. The chief intracellular electrolytes are potassium, magnesium, phosphate ions, and proteins. The chief extracellular electrolytes are sodium, chloride, and bicarbonate ions. These electrolytes are maintained by active transport ion pumps, even with the constant flow of materials in and out of cells of the body.
