Concept explainers
To Compare:
The Open Circulatory System and the Closed Circulatory System.
Introduction:
Open and closed circulatory systems are the two types of system that works for the transfer of blood throughout the body of an organism.
Explanation of Solution
In an Open circulatory system, blood isn’t packed in any vein but diffuses through the body because of being directly open to the environment as in the digestive tract. Open circulatory systems use hemolymph instead of blood. They pump the blood from the heart into the body cavities where tissues are surrounded by the blood as seen in insects, mollusks and other invertebrates.
In a closed circulatory system, blood moves faster and farther as there are blood vessels that help in transferring the blood to correct designation. Larger animals often have closed systems. Example: birds, mammals, fishes, reptiles and some invertebrates. This system pumps the blood by a hole through vessels and does not normally fill body cavities. Here the blood flows are active as seen in echinoderms and vertebrates.
The open circulatory system pumps the blood from the heart into the body cavities where tissues are surrounded by the blood, whereas closed circulatory system pumps blood by the heart through vessels and does not normally fill body cavities.
