Question
Chapter 30, Problem 30.53P
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
to explain why diets in 1990s focus on limit of carbohydrates.
Concept Introduction:
Weight loss is associated to calorie intake. Carbohydrates carry high energy content, as well as dense packed calories. The dietary pyramid has been changing in the last years, and this is mainly to address common health problems in society. For instance, back in the 1970s, the carbohydrate content in a recommended diet was very high, as it was associated with lots of grains, bread and pasta consumption. There was little known about the effects of complex carbohydrate on the long run, for example, the increase in obesity and diabetes.
