The fixed arrangement of ions can be disturbed at high temperatures, where the ionic bonds can also be broken and compound gets melted. In molten state, the charged ions are free to move and conduct electricity.
The properties of the ionic compounds are they are good conductor of electricity, they have higher melting and boiling point and they have crystal structures. On melting, the ions are free to move and conduct electricity.
