Interpretation:
The structural formula for the nucleotide
Concept Introduction:
The Nucleotide is the component of Nucleic acid which is a component of DNA and RNA. The Nucleotide consists of three components-Nitrogenous base (heterogeneous aromatic amine base), five membered sugar molecule and phosphate group. The Nitrogenous bases are Purines (Adenine, Guanine) and Pyrimidines (Uracil, Cytosine, Thymine). The five membered sugar molecule may be D-Ribose or 2-Deoxy-D-Ribose sugar. The Phosphate base is linked to sugar molecule at
Nucleotide = Nitrogenous base + Sugar molecule + Phosphate ion

- Suppose that 30% of the nucleotides in a DNA molecule are deoxyguanosine 5'- monophosphate, and that during DNA replication the percentage amounts of available nucleotide bases are 20% A, 20% C. 30% G. and 30% T. Which base would be depleted first in the replication process?arrow_forwardFor the trinucleotide 5 GCA 3 a. How many nucleotide subunits are present in its backbone? b. How many nucleotide nonbackbone subunits are present? c. How many phosphodiester linkages are present? d. What is the overall charge carried by the trinucleotide?arrow_forwardSuppose that 28% of the nucleotides in a DNA molecule are deoxythymidine 5'-monophosphate, and that during DNA replication the percentage amounts of available nucleotide bases art 22% A, 22% C, 28% G. and 28% T. Which base would be depleted first in the replication process?arrow_forward
- Is the trinucleotide in Problem 22-31 found only in DNA, found only in RNA, or found in both DNA and RNA? Explain the basis for your answer.arrow_forwardDraw the complete structure of the deoxyribonucleotide sequence from which the mRNA codon in Problem 28-29 was transcribed.arrow_forward25-37 Which type Of RNA has a sequence exactly comple- mentary to that of DNA?arrow_forward
- Draw a structural formula for each nucleotide and estimate its net charge at pH 7.4, the pH of blood plasma. (a) Guanosine 3'-monophosphate (GMP)arrow_forwardThere are two families of nitrogenous bases. The pyrimidines have one six-membered ring carbon and nitrogen atoms while purines are larger with a six-membered ring fused to a five -membered ring. Identify the type of nitrogenous base from monomer nucleotides. How can you tell?arrow_forwardDeoxyadenosine monophosphate (dAMP) and guanosine monophosphate (GMP) are nucleotides. The similarities between dAMP and GMP are that they both have? -an alpha (central) carbon.-the same R group.-a phosphate group.-a pentose (5 sided) sugar-an amino group-a nitrogenous base.arrow_forward
