Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The codons with a purine base A or G as the second base has to be compared whether the majority of amino acids coded by these codons are having hydrophilic or hydrophobic side chains.
Concept Introduction:
The amino acids whose side chains are not present in contact with the aqueous medium or the side chains are inside the protein core are said to be hydrophobic amino acids. The amino acids with hydrophobic side chains are Alanine, Valine, Leucine, Isoleucine, Proline, Phenylalanine, Methionine and Tryptophan.
The amino acids whose side chains are present in contact with the aqueous medium are said to be hydrophilic amino acids. The amino acids with hydrophilic side chains are Serine, Threonine, Cysteine, Asparagine, Glutamine, Histidine, Lysine, Aspartic acid, Glutamic acid, Arginine, Glycine and Tyrosine.
