Concept explainers
(a)
Interpretation:
The process of contraction of muscles is to be explained.
Concept Introduction:
The full form of ATP is adenosine triphosphate which contains three phosphate groups. The energy in human beings is stored as ATP.
ATP is synthesized in mitochondria (called power house of the cell) by oxidative phosphorylation. It acts as a source of energy to carry out the biological process.
The hydrolysis of ATP results in the formation of the chemical energy. This energy is further converted into other forms of energy.
The muscles are responsible for the body movements. The myosin and actin are the repeating units of the skeletal muscle. These filaments are responsible for the contraction of the muscles.
(b)
Interpretation:
The source of energy used in muscle contraction is to be stated.
