Chapter 26.6, Problem 9LO
Summary Introduction
To explain: Evidences supporting the hypothesis that red algae and green algae should be included in the monophyletic group with land plants.
Introduction: Algae is a broad term used for a group of aquatic organisms that are able to perform photosynthesis. They are not necessarily related to each other. Well defined morphological differentiation is absent in algae. These organisms can be found in different shapes and sizes.

Look at Fig. 33.1 and determine whether green algae, bryophytes, and vascular plants are monophyletic or paraphyletic.
Which of the following is a paraphyletic group? A) E,F,G
B) C and D
c)A,B,C,D
D) E,F,G,H,I,J,K
E) j and K
Protista is no longer accepted as a Kingdom because the organisms classified as protists show
varying degrees of genetic relatedness. Protista is a paraphyletic grouping that historically
encompassed organisms that did not fit into other classification groups.
