Chapter 26, Problem 6MC
Summary Introduction

Introduction:

Arboviruses (arthropod-borne viruses) cause an epidemic form of viral encephalitis. These viruses are enveloped and have a single-stranded RNA (ribonucleic acid). The biological vectors responsible for their transmission include insects, mites, and mostly by mosquitoes. Pathogenesis occurs as soon as the mosquito bites, which is followed by the viral replication at that site and in the lymph nodes. During severe cases of viremia, they invade the brain tissue by disrupting the blood–brain barrier resulting in symptoms such as facial paralysis and emotional instability.
