Chapter 26, Problem 4STP
Summary Introduction

Introduction :

The five kingdoms includes; Monera, Protista, fungi, plantae, and animalia. The Monera is divided into bacteria, cyanobacteria, and archaebacteria. Kingdom Protista includes members that are aquatic and have nucleated cells. Kingdom fungi include yeast, moulds, mushroom, etc. they are filamentous, have long thread-like structure called hyphae, have cell wall composed of chitin. The kingdom plantae includes all the plants. They are eukaryotic, autotrophic, composed of cell wall made of cellulose. Lastly, kingdom animalia includes all the animals. They are eukaryotic, heterotrophic, do not have cell wall. In five kingdom classification the animals are grouped on the basis of cell structure; either eukaryotic cell structure or prokaryotic cell structure. The next is the number of cells; either the organism is unicellular or multicellular. And the final basis of classification is mode of source of nutrition and cell wall; the organism either heterotrophic without cell wall or autotrophic with cell wall.

Answer to Problem 4STP

Correct answer :

The correct answer is option (A) Some are multicellular.

Explanation of Solution

Explanation/justification for the correct answer :

Option (A) Some are multicellular. Most of the organisms of group Protista are unicellular but some are also multicellular. They include algae, slim molds in one stage. They have defined nucleus with an enclosed membrane. So, the correct answer is option (A).

Explanation for incorrect answer :

Option (B) Some are prokaryotes. The organisms of group Protista are eukaryotes. The prokaryotes are included in group Monera. So, this is an incorrect option.

Option (C) Some have cell wall. The organisms of the group Protista do not have the cell wall. The cell wall is present in the plants and in some fungi. So, this is an incorrect answer.

Option (D) Some have tissue. Organisms of Protista do not have well defined tissue. The plant and animals kingdom have well defined tissue. So, this is an incorrect answer.
