Concept explainers
Introduction :
The organisms of the phylum arthropods have tough exoskeletons, segmented body with joined legs. The exoskeleton is the outer covering found in insects that protect the outer surface of the organism and maintain the muscle attached with it. The organism of phylum vertebrates consists of endoskeletons that mean they consist of skeleton inside the body that give the body its structure by holding the organs and protect them. It consists of mineralized tissue that enables the muscle movement attached with it.
Answer to Problem 1STP
Correct answer :
The correct answer is option (C) supporting the body.
Explanation of Solution
Explanation/justification for the correct answer :
Option (C)supporting the body. The endoskeleton is theouter coveringof the insects that protect the outer surface of the organism and maintain the muscle attached with it. The endoskeletons are the inner structure of the body that support the organs same as exoskeleton. So, the correct answer is option (C).
Explanation for incorrect answer :
Option (A)growing along with the animals. The endoskeleton grows along with the body of the animals while the exoskeletons grow to some extend and cover the inner body. So, this is an incorrect option.
Option (B) preventing water loss. The water loss prevention is maintained by the skin in the animals with endoskeleton while in invertebrates, they maintain their body temperature accordingly. So, this is an incorrect answer.
Option (D)providing protection from predators. The exoskeleton and endoskeleton body structure does not involve in protection against predators instead they provide support to the body. So, this is an incorrect answer.
