Chapter 25, Problem 65P

The voltage on a charged capacitor is monitored with a voltmeter whose resistance is 1.00 MΩ. The table below gives the meter reading as a function of time. Determine a function of the voltage which, when you plot it against time, should give a straight line. Make your plot, establish a best-lit line, and use it to determine the capacitance.

Time(s) 0 1 2 3 4
Voltage(V) 15.0 10.3 6.36 3.78 2.43

In the last column in the data table, it says that it's about voltage(v) divided by current(A) is equal to ohms so V/A = ohms. So if it's V/A and if you divide them to get the slope it's (y2-y1)/(x2-x1) then shouldn't V be the y value and A be the x value? And can you also try to use a line of best bit instead of drawing the line through each dot?

An electrical device draws 3.4 A (amps) when a voltmeter shows a voltage drop of 5.6 V (volts) across it. What is the electrical resistance of the device? Give your answer to the nearest tenth (0.1) ohm. Do NOT give units in the answer (since the units are already specified). Your Answer: Answer
