Database system can be tuned in three levels:

• One is the hardware level by adding disk if disk I/O is a bottleneck, CPU and disk buffer size is a bottleneck for faster processor.
• The second level is setting the database parameters such as checkpoint intervals and buffer size.
• The third level includes schema and transactions which is designed by the database administrator to improve the performance.
