Introduction:
Hepatitis is a viral infection of the liver characterized by inflammation and necrosis. It interferes with liver’s excretion of bile pigments and results in accumulation of bile pigments in blood and tissues. Three viruses are known to commonly cause hepatitis in humans- HAV, HBV and HCV.
