Introduction:
The contraction of the internal intercostals muscles causes the movement of air outside the lungs. It occurs when the person coughs. The lid of the glottis closes down. The glottis opens suddenly to allow for the movement of the air outside the lung cavity. The food particles entering the glottis moves down and generates the coughing reflex, if it is trapped inside the larynx and the pharynx.
