Chapter 23, Problem 49QAP
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The mass percent of elements present in nylon polymer needs to be determined.

Concept introduction:

A polymer is a long chain consists of large number of monomer units. In a polymer, the monomers are linked to each other in a continuous or repetitive manner. These monomer units are linked to each other either through the formation of peptide linkage, glycosidic linkage or by removal of any moiety such as a water molecule. Polyvinyl chloride, Bakelite and polystyrene are some of the examples of the polymers.

3. Simply answer. How are polymers classified based on their structure? Give TWO (2) example for condensation polymer and their major application. How does vulcanization change the properties of natural rubber?
A basic biological compound contains 40.0% Carbon, 5.7% Hydrogen and 54.3 %  oxygen. It has an atomic mass of 175g/mol. a) Hand draw the displayed and skeletal formula of the above biological compound then determine at least two of the isomers exhibited by this compound. b) Explain how the structure affects the properties of the polymers formed by these isomers.
