Copper chaperones are intracellular proteins that protect thecytoplasm from copper ions in transit and deliver the copper directly to cuproenzymes.
They are soluble copper binding proteins. Balancing of the copper ion concentration by these chaperones is presently not understood well and constitutes a problem in bioinorganic chemistry.
