Endosymbiosis theory is an evolutionary theory that believes that eukaryotic cells originated from prokaryotic organisms. Specifically, mitochondria and chloroplast are thought to have alpha-proteobacteria and cyanobacteria origins, respectively, which are both symbiotic bacteria.
