Concept explainers
Interpretation:
Rib
A nucleotide consists of a nitrogenous base, ribose sugar, and phosphate.
There are main types of RNA each enclosed by its own types of gens.
(1) mRNA (Messenger RNA)
(2) t RNA (transfer RNA)
(3) r RNA (Ribosomal RNA)
Concept introduction:
mRNA (messenger RNA): it is the most heterogeneous among RNA. It carries genetic code copy during transcription from the DNA. It acts as a template during protein synthesis.
tRNA (transfer RNA): it is the smallest of the types of RNA. Its main function is the transfer of amino acid during protein synthesis.
r-RNA (Ribosomal RNA): this RNA is found in ribosomes. It makes up the very large percentage of RNA in a cell. About . This act as the site of protein synthesis and has the enzymes needed during this process. Ribosomal RNA then links amino acids together to form proteins.
