Answer to Problem 2MI

Flagellated means having long projections that propel organisms with a whip-like motion

Explanation of Solution

Flagellum is a kind of projection that allows the cell/ organism to move or to move substances along the surface of the cell. It has a whip like motion. An organism may have one or two flagella. Some prokaryotes and certain eukaryotic cells have flagella.

Although some prokaryotes are stationary, others show movement.Bacteria use flagella for movement. Prokaryotic flagella are made of filaments unlike eukaryotic flagella that are made of microtubules. Flagella help the organism move towards light, higher concentration of oxygen, or chemicals such as sugar or amino acids that they need to survive.

The chytrids (Chytridomycota) are mostly aquatic. They constitute a primitive group of fungi that have flagellated spores.
