Positive charge, q3=3μC

Distance between the charges, d13=0.05m west and d23=0.03meast

Formula Used:

From Coulomb’s law,

  F=Kq1q2d2

Where,

  F is electrostatic force

  K is coulomb’s constant

  q1 and q2 are charges and

  d is distance between the charges.

Calculation:

As, K=9×109Nm2/C2

So, force between q1andq3 is,

  F1=9×109×(2×106)×(3×106)0.052=22N

Thus, the force exerted on the positive charge by q1 is F1=22N towards west.

Now, force between q3andq2 is,

  F2=9×109×(3×106)×(2×106)0.052=120N

Thus, the force exerted on the positive charge by q2 is F2=120N towards east

As magnitude of F2 is greater than F1 therefore net force on q3 is towards east and it is

  F=12022=98Nin east .

Conclusion:

Therefore, the net electrostatic force on positive charge q3 is F=98N in east.
