To Explain:The way to charge a conductor negatively using a positively charged rod.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
A body which has excess or deficit number of electrons as compared to number of protons is known as charged body. A body can mainly be charged by three methods:
1. Charging by
2. Charging by induction
3. Charging by friction
When a neutral body is touched by a charged body, it is called charging by conduction. When a neutral object is brought near a charged body, the neutral body gets polarized and it is called charging by induction. Whentwo neutral bodies having different electronegativities are rubbed against each other, one gets positively charged and other gets negatively charged.
When a positively charged rod is brought near the conductor, opposite charge is induced. This means that the rod would be polarized. The negative charge would accommodate towards one end leaving another end positively charged. The positively charged end can be grounded which would cause the positive charge to discharge to the ground. This would leave the entire rod negatively charged.
