Interpretation:
If a blood test indicates high level of LDH and CK then predict its cause.
Concept Introduction:
Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH or LD) is an enzyme found in nearly all living cells (animals, plants, and prokaryotes). LDH catalyzes the transformation of lactate to pyruvic acid and vice-versa, as it changes NAD+ to NADH and vice-versa. A dehydrogenase can be defined as an enzyme that exchanges a hydride. The higher level of the LDH ar found to be associated with the tissue damage.
Creatine kinase (CK)is an enzyme expressed by various tissues and cell types. Clinically, creatine kinase is assayed in blood tests as a marker of damage of CK-rich tissue such as in myocardial infarction (heart attack), rhabdomyolysis (severe muscle breakdown), muscular dystrophy, and acute kidney injury.
