Interpretation:

It has to be indicated whether the enzyme is saturated or not saturated in each of the following conditions:

(a) Adding more substrate does not increase the rate of the reaction.

(b) Doubling the substrate concentration doubles the rate of reaction.

Concept Introduction:

The enzymescan be defined as the macromolecular catalyst, which helps in the enhancement of the rate of the reaction. The molecule, which is undergoing the chemical reaction. The enzyme helps the substrate to get converted into the products.

The enzymes are able to perform at their maximum extent on a specific physical parameter. They need an optimum temperature and potential of hydrogen (pH), in order to work properly.

On the saturation, all the active site of the enzyme is occupied with the substrate, so, on the addition of the more substrate, no change in the rate of the reaction is observed.
