To Explain: Theposition of the central bright band of a double slit interference pattern cannot be used to find the
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
A characteristic bright and dark fringe are observed when monochromatic light of two narrow slits illuminates a distinct screen. The superposition of light waves originating from two light waves produces interference pattern.
Two slitsprovide two coherent sources then they interfere constructively or destructively. For constructiveinterference path difference is integral multiple of wavelength.
For center bright line the order of m is zero. At center all the wavelength produces the line at same place.
Conclusion:
Wavelength of light cannot be determined from the position of central bright band.
