Concept introduction: Virus are small and acellular organisms that multiply only in a living host. Their genome is made of either DNA or RNA. A DNA virus has deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) that may be single stranded or double stranded, for example poxvirus. The genome of the RNA virus is made of ribonucleic acid (RNA) that may be single or double stranded, for example, influenza virus.
