Any substance that can trigger the generation of cancerous cells is called a carcinogen. Examples of a few carcinogens are pesticides, tobacco from cigarettes, asbestos that is used for insulating homes, some chemicals like vinyl chloride and benzene, and radiations like alpha, gamma, X-rays, ultraviolet rays, and microwaves have been known to be carcinogenic.
