To explain: The term normal to the surface.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
Consider a light ray falls on a plane surface; the incidence angle made by light ray with the normal to the surface is same as reflectance angle made by the light ray with the normal to the surface. This is known as law of reflection.
The normal is an imaginary line that is perpendicular to a surface at the location where light strikes the surface.The reflected ray, the incident ray, and the normal line will always be in the same plane. Sketch the reflected ray, the incident ray, and the normal to the surface as shown in figure below.
