Explanation of Solution

Introduction:According to the thermodynamics, a closed system conserve mass but exchanges energy. However, in the case of an open system, both mass and energy are exchanged.

When both latched and unlatched safety pins will dissolve in the identical acid bath then latched one will work as a closed system and stores the energy from the acid bath. It will convert that energy into heat energy.

However, an unlatched pin will not be able to store the energy as it will work as an open system. Due to which no heatenergy will be accumulated in it for a fruitful purpose.

Conclusion: Latched pin will store and convert energy into heat energy.
