Chapter 16, Problem 11A

What results when low everyday speeds are used in the relativistic equations for time and length?

Expert Solution & Answer
Check Mark
To determine

The results when low everyday speeds are used in the relativistic equations for the time and length.

Explanation of Solution

Introduction:

According to correspondence principle, if the equation of special relativity is to be valid then they must correspond to the equations of Newtonian Classical Mechanics. For this, speeds less than speed of light are considered.

For everyday low speed, the time scale and length scale of moving objects remain unchanged. Newtonian equation holds true for momentum, kinetic energy.

Conclusion:

The result obtained using Newtonian equations are obtained for low speeds.
