Chapter 15.6, Problem 15.14P
Interpretation Introduction

(a)

Interpretation:

The given Fischer projection needs to be represented using wedges and dashed wedges.

Concept introduction:

For a molecule with chiral center, the Fischer projection formula is written to describe the stereo arrangement of atoms in two dimensions. For large molecules with more than 1 stereocenters are also represent their stereochemistry using the Fischer Projection. The carbon chain of the molecule containing the chiral carbon center is represented as vertical line with chiral carbon at the center. Two other groups are then horizontally arranged around the chiral carbon atom.

The wedge and dashed bonds are used to represent the 3D structure of the molecule.

Students have asked these similar questions
Convert each Fischer projection into a three-dimensional representation with wedges and dashed bonds.
Convert each ball-and-stick model to a Fischer projection.
Draw a Fischer projection for each compound. Remember that the cross represents an asymmetric carbon atom, and the carbon chain should be along the vertical, with the IUPAC numbering from top to bottom. (S)-1,2-dibromobutane
