Textbook Question
Chapter 14, Problem 1RQ
Compare continuous and batch processes.
Expert Solution & Answer
Program Plan Intro
Process:
- A process refers to a sequence of actions or steps taken for achieving a particular task.
- Process control is defined as controlling the process automatically.
- Some of the applications of process control systems include automobile, assembly, power generation, food processing, and so on.
Explanation of Solution
Comparison on continuous and batch process:
Continuous process | Batch process |
In continuous process, the production of finished products is performed continuously. | In batch process, the production of finished products is performed in certain batches. |
Here, raw materials are entered into the system from one end and the finished product comes out from another end of the system on a continuous basis. | Here, a set of inputs to the process is received in batch, and then certain operations are performed on the batch to produce a product. |
It is mainly used in automotive engine assembly line. | It is mainly used in the manufacturing of food, beverages, pharmaceutical products, and fertilizers. |
